BETTER OUTCOMES.

Anxiety. Depression. Suicidal thoughts. Substance Use. Patients diagnosed with these and other debilitating mental illnesses and their comorbidities often struggle to find help. Expanding access to these services and ensuring that patients receive the care and support they require is imperative.

Prevarian develops Behavioral Health Hospitals for outstanding Operators that offer acute inpatient psychiatric services as well as Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP).

Prevarian directly – proactively - approaches Health Systems and Hospitals across the country and talks with them about the challenges that they face in providing treatment for these patients.

Most say the same thing.

"WE NEED MORE SERVICES. WE NEED MORE BEDS.

WE COULD USE SOME HELP."

The financial implications for acute care providers are enormous. Patients boarding in their Emergency Departments and in their patient rooms present diagnoses that they are often unequipped to treat, and patients who are inadequately treated usually return to their hospitals. Often through the ED doors. Repeatedly.

We have a passion for finding solutions to this epidemic. We have invested considerable resources in the “subject matter expertise” and an understanding of the business of Behavioral Health and how innovative strategy and exceptional real estate – responsive environments that prioritize the well-being and recovery of patients - give our Operator-Tenants an advantage.

Not surprisingly, research suggests that behavioral health and physical health are closely related. 68% of adults with mental health disorders also struggle with medical conditions. And the cost of managing the physical health of a patient with chronic medical conditions and an underlying behavioral health issue is estimated to be 300% higher than that of a patient without these challenges.

Community Hospitals face serious, costly challenges.

Behavioral Health Hospital Development In Progress

In markets where demand exceeds supply, or where existing Behavioral Health providers’ exclusionary criteria mean that medically-complex patients cannot get treatment...

...by partnering or aligning with a Behavioral Health provider, Acute Care providers address the complex care needs of an increasing number of patients presenting with behavioral health disorders and reduces stress on the medical/surgical units and teams while bolstering financial performance.

Many of us have had at least one direct, personal experience with the effects of Behavioral Health disorders. It is a complex problem that demands sophisticated, thoughtful, strategic solutions.

Reimbursement for Behavioral Health services lags behind payment for most medical / surgical treatment and procedures. And Behavioral Health is widely misunderstood. By a lot of smart people.

We see examples of this misunderstanding every day, and the challenges that come with it.

Many of us have had at least one direct, personal experience with the effects of Behavioral Health disorders. It is a complex problem that demands sophisticated, thoughtful, strategic solutions.

  • With our potential neighbors, an understanding of who these patients are is challenging.

  • With local jurisdictions, Zoning and Entitlements can be challenging.

  • For our Operator-Tenants, staffing and Physician availability are challenging.

  • For economic feasibility, development costs – land, construction, equipment, etc. are challenging.

Turns out we love a Challenge.

Prevarian is leading an effort to clear up misconceptions, enable effective partnerships, and expand access to Behavioral Health in communities across the country.
